Pervert confessed to molesting girl after being jailed for sex attack on boy

A pervert jailed for a terrifying sex attack on a boy walked straight out of prison and confessed he’d also abused a girl.

Leslie Baker was locked up for 12 months in July 2014 for his part in the sexual assault of a child in the 1970s.

But on his release from jail he told a probation hostel worker that he had also abused a young girl in the 1980s.

The 63-year-old, of Laurel Road, Fairfield, admitted indecently assaulting the teenager on at least three occasions.

However, he was cleared after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court of two counts of rape and three indecent assaults.

The court today heard he was 20 years older than his young victim, who he invited into his home and groomed.

Charlotte Kenny, prosecuting, said Baker “taught” his victim how to perform sex acts on him.

The victim also described being filmed by Baker with a cine camera, but there was no evidence it was working.

She said the abuse ruined her life and she suffered from panic attacks, flashbacks and nightmares.

Ms Kenny said: “She feels she was robbed of her childhood. She can’t describe the pain and torture that it caused her.

“She says she no longer feels that she is in control and she has suicidal thoughts. She is on medication.”

Baker was convicted of gross indecency with the boy, who was aged between 12 and 14, when he was abused in a disused dairy building.

He and another man approached the child, took him upstairs and tried to sexually abused him.

The boy fought back, grabbing Baker’s penis and causing him pain, but was slapped by the other abuser.

The boy managed to escape, but did not report the attack to police until decades later.

Ms Kenny said he eventually went to the police after Baker approached his son years later and said: “How’s your old fella? Tell him he’s a w***er.”

The court heard Baker was also convicted of indecent exposure in 1973, for which he received a one-year probation order.

Sarah Holt, defending, said Baker, who used a walking stick in the dock, was now in “poor health”.

She said he had a knee operation and suffered from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, due to asbestos on his lungs.

Judge Denis Watson, QC, said Baker pleaded guilty on the basis the girl was 14 or 15, rather than 12, when the abuse began.

He said he could not be sure and would proceed on the basis she was at least 13 – meaning a shorter sentence in guidelines.

The judge said: “You had a sexual interest in her and having got to know her and befriended her and made her feel comfortable and familiar in your own home, you then encouraged and persuaded her to masturbate you.

“I’ve no doubt that having your own children who were a little bit younger than her, that gave her confidence to be in your home.

“The reality is you cultivated her friendship and in reality you groomed her to the extent that she would do as you asked and you taught her effectively how to masturbate you.”

He said the camera may not have been working, but it would have increased the victim’s concern about potential footage existing.

Judge Watson said the historic crime was “significant and serious offending” and jailed Baker for two years and 10 months.

He told him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life and to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
