Carlisle man downloaded 140,000 indecent images of children
A Carlisle man has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register after he admitted downloading nearly 140,000 indecent images of children.
Andrew Neil Gash, 50, of Moorhouse Road, Carlisle, pleaded guilty to four charges relating to the images.
The court heard that 461 of the images were classified as Categorty A – the most serious categorty; while 2,262 were category B; and the remainder – 136,919 – were Category C.
The defendant also admitted possessing a prohibited image of a child.
The downloading offences were committed between November, 2008, and October of last year, the court heard.
District Judge Gerald Chalk told the defendant the he would, in due course, be given credit for his guilty pleas
But the judge added: “I take the view that my powers of sentencing are inadequate.”
The judge ordered Probation Service background reports on the defendant and sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a sentencing hearing on June 11.
In the meantime, the judge told Gash that he must within three days contact Cumbria Police at the force’s Durranhill HQ so that he can sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
The defendant was granted bail until his next court appearance in June.
