Paedophile (57) jailed for 12 years

A paedophile whose home on Bulwell’s Snape Wood Estate was burned down after his sex offences against young girls came to light, has been jailed for 12 years.

A judge told Gino Riccardo (57): “The sentence I pass is severe. It is intended not only to punish you but also to deter other men from abusing children.”

Judge Michael Stokes ordered that, when released from prison, Riccardo’s licence period should be extended by three years.

He would also have to sign on the sex offenders’ register for life. The court heard the blaze was started at Riccardo’s home in Midlame Gardens in March after people became aware of the abuse.

Riccardo pleaded guilty in May to having sexual intercourse with girls under the age of 13 and taking indecent photos of them between November 1999 and March this year.

At the earlier hearing, the prosecution said the house was burned down after the matters came into the public domain.

The court heard that, when Riccardo was only 19 years old, he was put on probation for indecent assault of a child and, when 26, was given a suspended sentence for having sexual intercourse with an under-age girl.

Peter Walmsley (prosecuting) said the offences were discovered in mid-March when someone looking after the house during a holiday discovered several indecent polaroid photos of children.

Judge Stokes said the medical evidence of physical abuse was some of the “most disturbing” he had ever come across.
