Manipulative pervert groomed vulnerable teen

A ‘manipulative’ pervert groomed a vulnerable teenage girl and then called her from prison to ask her to lie to police.

Waheed Jahangir, 37, from Longsight, has now been jailed for three years and eight months after pleading guilty to child sexual exploitation offences.

Manchester Crown Court heard how officers first spotted a missing 16-year-old girl in Jahangir’s car in May last year.

As they arrived, they saw him ‘rearrange his trousers’.

The pair were surrounded by empty vodka bottles and there were ‘signs of sexual activity’, police said.

Specialist officers spoke with the teenager, who said Jahangir had been messaging her for months and would buy her alcohol.

In August last year, the teenager was found at Jahangir’s house, again surrounded by alcohol.

Jahangir was arrested and when police searched his house they seized a mobile phone containing indecent images of his victim, and messages showing he had groomed the victim when she was 15.

Initially, the messages said he was thinking about the teenager and couldn’t wait to see her.

But as she started refusing his demands, his texts became aggressive.

Jahangir, of Naburn Street, Longsight, was remanded in custody but in January 2018, a burner phone was found at the teenager’s house which he had used to contact her from prison.

During calls, he had asked her to tell police that the messages he had sent before she was 16 were a joke.

On Monday, he pleaded guilty to grooming, possession of indecent images of a child, sexual activity with a child and perverting the course of justice.
