Fiend caught with harrowing video of girl as young as 12 being abused

A fiend has been caught with a harrowing seven-minute video of a girl as young as 12 being sexually abused.

Vile David Smith, 60, had it hidden on a memory stick plugged into a telly when cops raided his den.

Experts warned the footage fell into the worst category for depravity.

The creep admitted possessing the clip when he was dragged into Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday.

Prosecutor Frank Clarke told how cyber crime officers found the film next to files labelled with the weirdo’s name.

He said: “On opening the memory stick, there was a number of files which had been deleted.

“The files that remained were a mix of music and this one image.

“The file’s name was PTHC – which I am told means ‘pre-teen hardcore’.

“It features a female aged 12 to 14, which would correspond with the file name. She was naked throughout the video.”

Smith was not home when police kicked in the door to his seedy flat in Renfrew’s Bell Street.

They forced their way in after his computer was linked to online sex abuse images.

Specialist teams swept the building hunting for him in September 2016.

Mr Clarke told how Smith was forced to hand over all electronic equipment for testing.

He added: “Cyber crime officers attended to carry out an examination of any items seized.

“During the course of the search, a one gigabyte memory stick was recovered.

“It was inserted into a sound bar connected to a DVD player.

“The cyber crime unit were able to say that a category-A indecent image of a child was found on it.

“Contact was made with Smith, who was at work.

“He was asked to come home.

“ Police made a request for any electronic equipment that he was carrying and he provided a mobile phone and a tablet.”

The court heard there is no way to say how many times the pervert had watched the clip.

Defence lawyer Joseph Murphy begged for his client to be released.

He said: “He was searching various sites on his computer.

“This particular one was opened out of curiosity. He’s never been in trouble before.”

Smith has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register and has been flagged as a danger to the Scottish Government.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew bailed the beast but ordered him to keep away from youngsters.

He said: “You have pled guilty to one charge involving one image – but it’s amoving image of young children.

“It’s one I have to be seriously concerned about.

“If you are standing in queue in a shop behind a child, that’s not a breach. But if you intentionally follow a child into the shop, it’s clear that would be.”

Smith has been ordered to return for sentencing next month.
