Pervert caught by paedophile hunters avoids prison

A pervert who believed he was grooming multiple schoolgirls as young 13 for sex has avoided a prison sentence

On 12 April 2018, Kieran Paul Burgess, 30 from Offerton appeared at Manchester Crown Court where he was sentenced for meeting a female child under the age of sixteen following sexual grooming.

The court was told that the offence relates to a report police received on Thursday 7 December 2017 that a 30-year-old man had been sending sexually explicit messages to a 13-year-old girl

After sending sexually charged messages to the girl, Burgess arranged to meet her, only to find out that the ‘girl’ was infact an undercover decoy from child protection team ‘Shadow Hunters’

The police later discovered from evidence supplied by other teams that Burgess had contacted other decoys he believed were children and had sent vile messages to them too

The judge sentenced Burgess to 12 months imprisonment – suspended for two years

Burgess was told that he must attend a sexual offenders treatment programme

He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years, and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of 10 years
