Transgender woman jailed for sex offences when she was a man
A transgender woman has been jailed in a male prison for indecently assaulting a boy more than 20 years ago.
Kathleen Carpenter, who was formerly known as Keith Thompson, 59, of Doncaster Road, Hatfield, Doncaster was locked up for 32 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (January 29).
The victim estimated he was aged 13 or 14 when Carpenter touched him sexually in the village of Gringley-on-the-Hill, Nottinghamshire, in the early 1990s.
The boy, who cannot be identified due to the nature of the charges, did not tell anyone about the assault for many years.
He left home and and turned to drugs. But he later demanded an apology and some money from Carpenter.
Police inquiries led to the true story being pieced together. Carpenter was charged with two indecent assaults, which she admitted.
Judge Stuart Rafferty QC gave her 32 months on one charge and 12 months concurrently on the second.
He ordered Carpenter sign the sex offenders’ register and be on a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
