Former soldier from Gloucester jailed
A former Coldstream Guard chatted to an 11-year-old ‘girl’ online unaware that ‘she’ was actually a member of a group which hunts down paedophiles, a court heard yesterday.
Douglas Spurgeon, 67, of Colebridge Avenue, Gloucester was snared by the ‘Guardians of the North’ when he asked the fictitious girl if she needed a bra and whether she had any pubic hair.
The offences took place between January 29 and February 2, Gloucester crown court heard.
Spurgeon pleaded guilty to inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.
“You are 11 but you look older than that,” he had said online to the fake girl.
“You are making me horny and hard.”
Spurgeon was sentenced to 28 months in prison and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order as well as being put on the sex offender’s register.
