Man jailed for sexual activity with child

A man who groomed and had sex with a teenage girl has been jailed for five years by a judge at Swansea Crown Court.

David Morse, 68, of Lon Cefn Mably, Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, continually interrupted sentencing judge Christopher Vosper QC to proclaim his innocence and, just before he was taken away to begin the sentence by dock officers, he said: “Can I just say I am guilty of no offences”.

Morse, of previous clean character, was convicted by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court in July this year of four offences of having sexual activity with a child.

Judge Vosper, sitting at Swansea Crown Court yesterday, said the evidence against Morse during the trial was “overwhelming”.

The court heard Morse took the teenager, who cannot be identified, on two occasions to a friend’s vacant home where he had sex with her and on a second occasion, used a sex toy on her.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the teenager said: “I used to be a happy, normal child. Now there is so much going on. I have nightmares and flashbacks.”

Morse was placed on the sexual offenders’ register for life and was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
