Man jailed for raping young girl
A man convicted of raping a seven-year-old girl was jailed for five years yesterday.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that Paul McAvoy, 36, committed the horrific offence 16 years ago at a house in Linwood.
The horrific offence is alleged to have taken place on one occasion between May, 1993 and January, 1994 while McAvoy was baby sitting the small child.
It only came to light years later when his victim found the courage to tell police what had happened to her as a child.
McAvoy, of Peartrees Caravan Park, Cumbernauld Road in Glasgow, was also found guilty of sexually abusing the girl and a 13-year-old boy.
Jailing McAvoy judge Lord Brailsford told him: “These are serious charges committed against people who were much younger than you.
“You refuse to accept your guilt.
“Your acceptance, or otherwise, is for you to deal with.
“The court must accept the jury’s verdict.”
Lord Brailsford also ordered McAvoy to be monitored in the community for two years after his release from jail and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ register.
