Serial child rapist, 26, jailed after being found with hundreds of images and videos of girls as young as four
A serial paedophile will spend another six months in jail after hundreds of child sexual abuse files were found on his computer.
Reginald Robert Young, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child exploitation material in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday.
Tasmanian Police found 342 images and videos of children aged between four and 15 on his computer in June 2016.
Magistrate Ken Stanton said two of the videos were ‘most serious’ and the pornography was just a ‘small part’ of his rap sheet
The young father was already in jail for raping two teenage girls aged 13 and 14 he met on Facebook in February 2016 and then kidnapped.
He was charged with three counts of rape, one count of abducting the 13-year-old and one count of possessing child exploitation material and jailed for four years.
Earlier in 2012, Young was jailed for six months for having sex with a 14-year-old girl in his car and a women’s toilet cubicle in 2011.
He was on bail for yet another sexual assault, that time on a 12-year-old female family friend whom he digitally assaulted in another toilet block.
The assault in April 2010 was only stopped when the Year 6 girl’s friends yelled at him to stop it after they saw him carry her into the toilet.
On both occasions he groomed the girls on Facebook and text messages and told them he loved them so they would meet him.
Police then found 27 sexual images and videos of the 14-year-old and two other girls on his computer.
Magistrate Stanton said Young, who was in another case described as as having the psycho-sexual maturity of a 14 or 15-year-old boy, was ’emotionally immature’.
Young had already been placed on the sex offenders registry for 20 years over his previous crimes.
Reginald Young sentenced to six months’ prison for child sex offences
A Mount Direction man who seduced and had sex with a 14-year-old girl while on bail for other child sex offences will spend a total of six months in jail.
Chief Justice Ewan Crawford said Reginald Robert Young’s decision to pursue the second girl despite being committed to stand trial for the aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl a year earlier showed a concerning attitude to underage girls.
“His possession of child exploitation material also compounds my concern about him and I have concluded that he should be required to serve imprisonment as a punishment and deterrent,” Chief Justice Crawford said.
The 20-year-old was jailed for six months yesterday for two counts of having sexual intercourse and one of aggravated sexual assault with the 14-year-old girl.
Those crimes occurred in May 2011, five months after he was arrested for the aggravated sexual assault of the 12-year-old girl.
“He was on bail for the first set of under-age sex offences when he committed the second set,” Chief Justice Crawford said.
“That is an aggravating factor.”
Young pleaded guilty on Friday to both sets of sex offences and one count of possessing child exploitation material.
For the first assault, which occurred in May 2010, he received a three-month suspended jail sentence.
In that incident he had exchanged text messages with the 12-year-old girl, who was a family friend, and told her he loved her.
They met in a supermarket car park in the Launceston area and he took her to public toilets 100 metres away, where he assaulted her.
The assault stopped when the girl’s friend, who was also in the toilets, heard her telling Young to stop.
“With both girls, the accused took advantage of their immaturity for his own gratification,” Chief Justice Crawford said.
“His counsel said he had genuine affection for the girls.
“That is not an excuse, and in my experience it is a common claim in cases of sexual acts with children.”
Young will spend six months in jail, backdated to February 10.
His name has been placed on the sex offenders register for five years.
