Basildon man handed a 16-year prison sentence
AN 80 year old Basildon man has been handed a 16-year prison sentence for child sexual abuse offences involving very young children.
Roy Cooper, of Mapleford Sweep, was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court last week for eight counts of indecent assault and three counts of indecency with a child.
He abused male and female children who were under the age of 13 during the 1960s and 1970s.
Cooper attended a voluntary interview in February 2017 before being charged last September.
He pleaded not guilty but was unanimously convicted by a jury earlier this month.
