Child abused by paedophile over six years
A young child molested by a twisted paedophile over a six-year period was left so distraught she had to sleep cuddling a teddy bear and facing the wall.
Remorseless Philip Hampson progressed from touching the girl, who was not yet a teenager, to more serious sexual assaults.
The 35-year-old was jailed for eight years, with an additional year on licence, at Liverpool Crown Court today after a jury convicted him of 14 sexual offences.
Hampson, of Clarendon Close in Birkenhead was supported in court by a group of relatives and friends, who blew kisses and waved as he was led to the cells.
A victim personal statement from the victim, read in court, said: “I’m only a young girl and will want relationships in the future but I will always be worried about trusting others…
“When I sleep at night I have to face the wall and cuddle a teddy bear to feel safe.”
Ben Jones, prosecuting, had told the jury that Hampson kissed the girl, touched her sexually and performed sex acts on her.
Judge Robert Warnock, sentencing, said he had seen no evidence of “remorse or insight” by Hampson
Judge Warnock also banned Hampson from contacting the victim with an indefinite restraining order.
