Missing paedophile who groomed 14-year-old girl could be in Leicester
Police have made an urgent appeal for help tracing a convicted sex offender from Leicester who has gone on the run.
Aaron Michael Rhys Wilson, who has previously lived in the Frog Island area of the city, did not show up for a court hearing in Sussex earlier this year.
The 23-year-old was due to be sentenced for a number of crimes, including five counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The victim was a girl aged 14, whom Wilson had contacted online, Sussex Police said today.
The force said colleagues in Leicestershire Police are involved in the search.
An arrest warrant was issued after Wilson failed to appear for sentencing at Lewes Crown Court, Sussex January.
He had previously admitted the offences.
In a statement issued today, Sussex Police said: “Wilson arranged to meet a girl, who was then 14, in St Leonards having made contact with her online from his home in Leicester.”
Detective Constable Joanna Cooper said Wilson did not attend a pre-sentence review in December last year and his sentencing at Lewes Crown Court in January.
Det Con Cooper said: “He is from Leicester and his last known addresses were Paget Road and Dunton Street in the Frog Island area of Leicester.
“He is also known in Sinfin Avenue in the Shelton Lock area and Drewry Lane area of Derby.
“We have been working with Leicestershire and Derbyshire Police to locate him and we know he is deliberately avoiding us.”
