Pervert, 18, posed as policeman so he could meet boy, nine, for sex

An 18-year-old pervert posed as a policeman online in a bid to meet a nine-year-old boy for sex.

Callum Lee Bates was snared by paedophile hunters after he tried to meet his young victim at a deserted railway station on January 3.

The predator, who believed he was meeting ‘Dillon’ at Andover railway station, broke down in tears when he was caught by members of team SKID shortly after midnight.

Bates bombarded his victim, who he initially believed to be 14-years-old, with explicit texts before lying about being a trainee police constable to ‘impress’ him.

Despite ‘Dillon’ later telling him he was only nine, Bates invited him to his home for ‘full sex’, repeatedly asked him for naked photos and described planned abuse in sickening detail.

When the ‘boy’ said he was nervous and scared he might get in trouble, Bates assured him everything was above board because he was ‘a cop’.

But when he got to the station Bates was met instead by members of SKID – because ‘Dillon’ was actually an undercover decoy posing as a child.

Bates, of Andover, Hampshire pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday. He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on April 12.

Footage of the sting shows Bates claim he is ‘meeting a friend’ and confess that he believed the person he was speaking to was nine.

He started to weep as he was led away by the two men and sobs: ‘I’m just really scared.’

Hampshire Constabulary said Bates was accepted onto its Volunteer Police Cadet scheme in 2016 but left without completing his induction.
