Wife made and sent child abuse images to brother-in-law during affair

A wife took nude photos of an underage girl for her brother-in-law during a long-running affair.

Marieanne Hanson and her husband’s sibling Peter Hanson appeared in Leeds Crown Court for sentencing.

The court heard that the 52-year-old woman was in an “unhappy and abusive” marriage and became “infatuated” with the 64-year-old man.

The sick couple had “depraved conversations” on Facebook Messenger in which they discussed Peter having sex with the young girl in the photos and making a teenager have a baby for them.

Helen Chapman, mitigating, said that her client was married to Phillip Hanson for 20 years, adding: “[Marieanne] thought [Peter] was the light at the end of the tunnel.”

She added that her client lost her job in healthcare as a result of the offending and Mr Hanson has since died suddenly in their own home.

Marieanne, of Kingsley Drive in Adel, Leeds, had pleaded guilty to two counts of taking indecent images of a child, one count of making an indecent image of a child and two counts of distribution of indecent images of a child.

Peter, of Station Road in Tydd Gote in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, had pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child.

Sentencing Marieanne to 16 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, Judge Tom Bayliss QC told her that her offending was “beyond comprehension”.

She must sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

After a brief debate about whether Peter is sexually attracted to children or not, it was decided that he will be sentenced separately at a Newton hearing, which means that without a jury a judge decides which side is telling the truth. It was listed for April 4.
