‘Predator obsessed with sex’ groomed teenage girl and made plan to run away with her
A paedophile from Bristol who was “obsessed with sex” has avoided jail after his far-fetched plan to run away with a vulnerable teenage girl was exposed.
Robert Davis plotted to run away with a 15-year-old girl he had groomed in Bristol in October last year.
The 39-year-old, described by police as a “predator”, targeted the vulnerable teen and managed to entice her into his car by offering her a lift home after watching her socialise with friends.
Despite being told of her age, Davis asked for the girl’s phone number and repeatedly contacted her for months.
In December, he met with the girl and took her for a drive in his car – during which he revealed he wanted to run away with her.
But his perverted plan fell through after the girl, who became concerned for her safety, texted her mother and asked her to call the police.
Davis managed to avoid an immediate custodial sentence after his 18 months behind bars was suspended by a judge for two years.
The 39-year-old will, however, be on the Sex Offenders Register for the next 10 years and be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same amount of time.
