Gardaí ‘tardiness’ shortens paedophile’s jail sentence
A judge has noted the “tardiness” in the garda prosecution of a man found with thousands of images of child sexual abuse as part of a Europol investigation in 2012.
John O’Donoghue, 38, was jailed for two years yesterday for possessing the images.
He had also distributed illegal images and movies online. He told gardaí that he was addicted to looking at images of child sex abuse.
O’Donoghue, formerly of Galtymore Park in Drimnagh and with an address in Killarney, Co Kerry, pleaded guilty at Dublin circuit criminal court to distribution of child abuse images between November and December 2009, and possession of such material in September 2012. He had no previous convictions
