Dudley paedophile snared in trap set up by police
A DUDLEY paedophile who tried to arrange a meeting to have sex with a young schoolgirl has been jailed for three years.
Ashley Ward, who described himself as a ‘very open minded UK perv’, believed he was in touch with a person who had offered a seven-year-old child to be sexually abused by men.
But it was a trap set up by police officers to net perverts with a sexual interest in children and 41-year-old Ward was arrested in a raid on his home in Pearce Close.
Howard Searle, prosecuting, said Ward went onto an internet messenger site and went into details about what he would like to do with the seven-year-old.
A meeting was set up at a coffee shop in Guildford but Ward had to cancel at the last minute because of business commitments, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
He then tried to arrange a meeting at the same venue but before it could take place he was arrested by police, who seized a mobile phone from his home which was found to contain three indecent images of children.
One of the children was aged just 18 months or less, Mr Searle told the court.
Ward admitted attempting to arrange a meeting for the commission of a child sex offence and also making the indecent images.
He was made the subject of a 10 year Sexual Harm Protection Order and told he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Judge Amjad Nawaz also barred him from ever working with children.
