Paedophile caught with condoms trying to meet ‘girl’ at train station
A paedophile was caught by a self-styled hunting group after trying to meet who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl at a railway station.
Wayne Price, 35, from Barry, was caught with two condoms attempting to meet up with the “girl” he knew to be two years under the legal age of consent.
Cardiff Crown Court heard the name he used online was “Horny Wanna F***”.
Rachel Knight, prosecuting, said the offending occurred in November and December last year.
The court heard a member of a Swansea-based paedophile hunting group set up a profile on Meet4u pretending to be a fictional 14-year-old girl called Cassie
Prosecutors said the defendant approached her on December 4 and said he was “horny”.
The “girl” stated she was 14 and lived in Swansea and the defendant told her his real name was Wayne.
Ms Knight said Price sent a video of himself performing a sexual act, despite “Cassie” repeating her age.
The court heard he suggested she should come to Barry Island and arranged to meet her at Barry railway station but he did not turn up.
Prosecutors said he then made arrangements to meet the “girl” at Cadoxton station, which led to the “sting”.
Ms Knight said: “He was detained by a paedophile hunter group.”
The court heard Price was stopped by the group, who called the police. Officers found he was carrying two condoms and seized his mobile phone.
Police examined his phone and discovered he had been communicating with two other children although it is not known whether they were real children or decoys.
In relation to “Cassie”, he admitted attempting to cause a child to watch sexual activity and attempting to meet a child after grooming.
Price also admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting sexual communication with a child in connection with the other girls.
Prosecutors said he had been before the courts for seven previous offences, including burglary and theft.
The court heard he travelled from Worcester for the early guilty plea hearing.
His counsel said he moved to Worcester for a new start and asked for an alternative to an immediate jail term but Judge Christopher Vosper QC said the offending was too serious.
Price was jailed for 40 months and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made.
