Predatory paedophile jailed after twice raping young boy

Justice finally caught up with a ‘predatory paedophile’ as he started a 16-year jail sentence today.

Shingara Nanglu was eventually convicted of serious sex offences he committed up to 40 years ago.

Now 64 and with no previous convictions, he was found guilty after a Wolverhampton Crown court trial of twice raping a boy while the child was aged between six and 11 in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

He was further convicted of indecently assaulting the victim and found guilty of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl, also in the late 1980s. The children were both assaulted in their own homes, different addresses in Wolverhampton, the court heard.

Nanglu, of Epwell Road, Kingstanding, came to England in July 1975, working in a factory and on the railways until retiring in 2010.

He claimed to have ‘no sexual interest in children or homosexuality’, but Judge Michael Challinor told him: “You lied and lied to the jury and the victims have had to relive this ghastliness while you sat in the dock saying they were lying.

“You harassed the boy for your own sexual gratification whenever you could and threatened to come for him if he told anybody what had happened. He held all this in until he was old enough to face you.

“The psychological damage caused by your sexual assaults are incalculable.

“You have practically ruined his life and put the girl through an extremely distressing experience. The harm is immense with any sexual interference with a child. “

The judge praised the two victims for having the courage to bring the case against the ‘predatory paedophile’ and give evidence to the court.

He ordered that each should receive £500 from the public purse in acknowledgement of their actions. He told them: “I hope you can take some comfort from the fact that the jury believed you.”
