Purley paedophile jailed for sexually abusing five young girls
A paedophile has been jailed after he was convicted of sex attacks against five girls, aged as young as eight, in Croydon.
John Robinson, of Brighton Road in Purley, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday (February 13). He will be locked up for at least six years before being considered eligible for parole.
Robinson, 77, sexually abused his victims, who were all aged between eight and 14-years-old, at an address in Croydon in the 1980s.
The matter was first reported to police in April 2014.
An investigation was launched and Robinson was arrested in the same month. Detectives began to piece together the evidence and build a case against him.
After painstaking work, on April 8, 2017, Robinson was charged with 11 counts of indecent assault on girls under the age of 14 relating to five separate victims.
Robinson first appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on May 9 last year, where he pleaded not guilty to the offences.
However, following a trial at Croydon Crown Court he was found guilty of all 11 offences and sentenced on the same day.
