Shotts pervert escapes jail term despite being caught with child abuse images on phone
A Shotts sex offender has escaped being sent to prison.
Police found hundreds of indecent images of children as young as one year old on the phone of convicted sex beast Gordon Japp.
The 32-year-old appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court for sentencing having admitted having child porn on his mobile phone when police raided his home in Lansdowne Crescent, Shotts, in October last year.
Just eight months earlier he had been placed on the sex offenders’ register at Glasgow Sheriff Court for an undisclosed offence.
Michael McIntosh, prosecuting, said police were given information that, despite being subject to the restrictions placed on sex offenders, Jaap had been downloading indecent images.
They got a warrant to search his home and after a forensic examination cybercrime officers discovered 475 images featuring naked girls aged between one and 10 in his mobile phone, all but three in his Dropbox account.
The phone’s history showed he had trawled the internet in search of child sexual abuse images
Despite his depraved crimes, Jaap was spared a jail term.
Instead he was given a three-year community payback order with supervision.
He was also handed a five-month restriction of liberty order meaning he must remain within his home between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
