Pervert caught with thousands of child abuse photos on phone after seeking help with CV at Job Centre

A pervert was caught with more than 1,000 child abuse images after asking for help with his CV at a Job Centre.

Robert Davidson, 57, handed over his mobile phone to an employee at the centre in Kilmarnock in March last year who was horrified to discover indecent images of a child.

The worker immediately alerted police, who went to search Davidson’s home in nearby Galston.

A forensic analysis of his phone recovered 1359 indecent images, some of children as young as two.

Davidson admitted two charges of downloading and possessing child abuse images at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday.

Depute fiscal Scott Toal told the court how he had unwittingly revealed his secret folder of vile images at the Job Centre after asking for help finding work.

He said: “He was receiving assistance from an employee there in relation to updating his CV.

“The employee who was helping him with his mobile phone observed a folder which contained images of a naked female child.

“Alarmed by this, he closed the folder and gave the phone back to the accused before contacting the police.”

The court heard officers obtained a search warrant that day and was allowed inside the property by Davidson, who tried to cover up his crime.

Mr Toal added: “His initial response was that he had lost his mobile phone but officers found it behind a picture frame in the bedroom.

“Police also found a notebook with the names of websites which contain indecent images.

Of the images found, 176 were classified as being in the most severe category.

Sheriff Shirley Foran deferred sentence on first offender Davidson until March so background reports can be prepared.
