Remorseless Bridgwater paedophile jailed for string of sex attacks on young and vulnerable girls
A paedophile pensioner found guilty of a string of sexual attacks on two young girls has been jailed for 10 years.
73-year-old Anthony Daniells of Spillers Close, Bridgwater, was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault on a girl and one charge of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The charges date back to December 2000 and relate to two victims who were aged between four and six years old at the time. One of the girls was described by prosecutor Tara Wolfe as being ‘particularly vulnerable’.
He was found guilty following a trial that concluded on December 23.
Standing in front of Judge David Ticehurst at Taunton Crown Court today, Daniells protested: “I didn’t do nothing.”
The judge told him: “You are 73-years-old, and until your conviction, you were a man of good character. But behind the facade, you hid a dark secret.
“Over a number of years, you abused and sexually assaulted two young girls. You did this deliberately, for your own, perverted pleasure, and you made them relive their ordeal in front of a jury.
“And despite the jury’s verdict, you still persist in your denials. You have no remorse.
“The fact that your wife and family will suffer is entirely down to you, and your actions.”
Daniells was handed a combined sentence of 10 years. He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order, and to sign the sex offender’s register.
