A pervert who attacked a young girl as she slept – and then claimed he thought the victim was ‘the 18-year-old babysitter’- has been jailed.
Police described Conrad Asa Pritchard’s excuse as ‘absurd’ after the 22-year-old, from Salford, was jailed for 32 months.
Pritchard had crept upstairs at an early hours house party to carry out the attack. But he was found naked to the waist and lying next the youngster – pretending to be asleep – by the child’s horrified mother.
The woman had heard her daughter cry out. After Pritchard hurriedly fled the room, the girl told her mother what she had been through.
The pervert was was found hiding under a bed in another room before being chased out of the house.
Following his arrest he had first claimed he was so drunk he didn’t realise anyone was in the bed. He then claimed that that he thought the little girl was actually the 18-year-old babysitter. A judge rejected that explanation as ‘inconceivable’.
Pritchard of Isaac Close, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court after being convicted of sexual assault of a child under 13.
He was arrested after police were called to a ‘disturbance’ at a property in the early hours of June 26 last year.
Pritchard, who is slight of build and 5ft 3in, had pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing at Manchester magistrates when he hung his head and appeared distressed.
He must serve an additional eight weeks, on top of the 32 months sentence for the sex offence, for breaching a suspended sentence passed for shoplifting at Boots in Eccles.
