Man is found for the second time with films and photos of teenage girls being abused
A 63-year-old man with an “unhealthy interest in teenage girls” downloaded images of child abuse on computers at work, a court has heard.
When police raided Stuart Roy Cromwell’s office and seized computer equipment they found more than 220 films and photos of young girls.
Swansea Crown Court heard it was the second time Cromwell had been found with such material, and a sex offenders programme he completed after his last conviction had “clearly not worked”.
Craig Jones, prosecuting, said in September last year police executed a search warrant at business premises on the Players Industrial Estate in Clydach where the defendant worked.
Cromwell told officers that they would find “stuff” on his work computers, but nothing on his home computers.
An examination of computer equipment seized from his office uncovered 153 Category A pictures and videos, the most extreme kind, along with 46 Category B, and 29 Category C photos and movies.
Officers found no similar material on devices at his home address.
In his subsequent interview he said he had downloaded images of girls aged between 13 and 16 for “self-gratification”.
Cromwell, of Heol y Gors, Cwmgors, had previously pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent photographs of children, six counts of possessing indecent images of children, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which had been imposed following his previous conviction when he appeared in court via videolink for sentencing.
The court heard that in 2013 he was given a suspended sentence for possessing indecent images of children, offences having taken place over a period of some 12 years.
For the Category A offences Cromwell was sentenced to two years in prison, for the Category B offences to 18 months, for the Category C offences to 16 months, and for breaching the SHPO to 18 months, all the sentences to run concurrently, at the same time, making a total of two years in prison.
He was also made the subject of a SHPO for 10 years, and will be a registered sex offender for 10 years.
