Pervert sexually assaulted schoolgirls – during twisted games of hide and seek
Dominic Powner has been jailed after he sexually abused three schoolgirls – during twisted games of hide and seek.
The 32-year-old was aged 14 and 15 when he attacked his young victims.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he encouraged the girls to hide and he would sexually abuse them once he caught them.
Now the dad-of-three has been jailed for 31 months and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life.
Prosecutor Paul Spratt said complaints were first made in 2000 and the defendant was spoken to by the police but no formal court proceedings followed. However, the victims came forward to report the abuse again in 2015.
Mr Spratt said: “The defendant became involved in sexualised behaviour with one of the girls. There was one day when there was significant sexual offending.
“The girl had to perform a sex act on him. He said, ‘If you tell your dad I am going to hurt you’.
“He encouraged the girls to play hide and seek. If they were caught there would be sexual conduct.”
In their victim statements, the three women say they have suffered for many years and the defendant’s actions took away the innocence of their childhood.
One victim feels ‘damaged’ and has suffered with anxiety and depression, even trying to take her own life on several occasions.
Powner, of Knutton Lane, Knutton, pleaded guilty to six offences of indecent assault and three charges of indecency with a child.
The court heard he was convicted of indecent assault on a female in 2000.
Joseph Powner, aged 29, of Knutton Lane, Knutton, denied two charges of indecent assault and one offence of indecency with a child. But the prosecution offered no evidence against him and not guilty pleas were entered.
