Convicted pervert, 70, who took baby oil and new underwear to meet 15-year-old boy for sex was caught instead by online paedophile hunters

A 70-year-old who took baby oil and new underwear to meet an underage boy for sex has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after he was caught on camera by paedophile hunters.

Sex offender John Dunnigan had travelled 150 miles from Blackburn to Newcastle, where he planned to meet a 15-year-old boy called ‘Ben’, who he had been chatting to online.

The pensioner had bombarded the underage boy with explicit sexual chat and images after befriending him over Gaychat and even live streamed footage of himself performing a sex act and saying: ‘I really want to have sex with you Ben’.

But Newcastle Crown Court heard the pervert, who was on the sex offenders register for life after being convicted of having indecent images of children, had been duped by Dark Justice, a two-man organisation that sets up fake internet profiles to snare adults looking for underage sex.

The group had set up a fake profile on the website and made it clear to the pensioner he was speaking to an underage boy.

When Dunnigan arrived at the meeting place to see Ben in December, members of the group, with their video camera and the police in tow, were waiting for him.

During a search of the pensioner’s turquoise Suzuki motor, police found a bottle of baby oil, a packet of underpants and a handwritten note containing Ben’s details were found.

Dunnigan told officers at the scene he had been due to meet a 16-year-old who he planned to ‘take for a McDonald’s and milkshake then say goodbye and goodnight’.

He later pleaded guilty attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Jailing him for three-and-a-half years, Judge Penny Moreland told him: ‘The items found in your car clearly indicate what you had in mind for that meeting but as it transpired the profile was a false profile put up by an adult in order to identify people, like you, interested in making contact, for sexual purposes, with children.’
