Bridgwater paedophile to be sentenced for string of sexual attacks on young girls
A Bridgwater pensioner found guilty of a string of sexual attacks on two young girls will have to wait until later this month to discover his fate.
73-year-old Anthony Daniells of Spillers Close, Bridgwater, was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault on a girl and one charge of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The charges date back to December 2000 and relate to two victims who were aged between four and six years old at the time.
He was found guilty following a trial that concluded on December 23.
As the verdict was read out, someone in the public gallery burst into tears and the defendant insisted: “I am not a criminal.”
Judge David Ticehurst released him on bail as an “act of mercy” to enable him to get his affairs in order before the “almost inevitable” prison sentence.
He was ordered to sign the sexual offenders register in the meantime and will be back in court on January 26 for sentencing.
