Update: Reduced to 20 years on appeal
Father and son jailed after young girl subjected to horrific sexual abuse in Yeovil
A father and son have been jailed for more than 27 years after they sexually preyed on a young girl.
Frazer John Egginton, 47, of Westfield Road, Yeovil, admitted three charges of sexual assault on a child under 13, two charges of sexual activity in the presence of a child, and rape of a child under 13 – all the same victim.
On Monday (December 18) he was handed a combined jail term of 24 years with a 12 month extension to his license period.
His son, Jonathan Lee Egginton, 26, of St Patricks Road in Yeovil was found guilty in October of two charges of causing or inciting the same girl to engage in sexual activity.
He was sentenced to three and a half years in jail.
The allegations came to light after a friend discovered a notebook kept by the young girl.
When interviewed by specially trained police officers, the girl spoke about the abuse that Frazer Egginton had been inflicting on her, and later disclosed to social workers that she had also been targeted by his son.
The pair were also made to sign the Sex Offender’s Register, made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and both will have to pay victim surcharge of £120.
At the sentencing, Judge David Ticehurst said the conviction was down to “careful and prolonged work by police officers” and paid tribute to the officers involved in the case, for their “painstaking, careful and exemplary investigation”.
He also heaped praise on a woman – who cannot be named – who has been caring for and supporting the victim since she first made her disclosures.
“There is good in the human soul,” he said. “I want to pay her a warm and real tribute for everything she has done for the victim.”
