Co Down teenager solicited photos from child victims by promising help with gym routine
A Co Down teenager solicited photos from his child victims by promising help with their gym routine.
Owen Mounsey, who was 16 at the time of the offences, pleaded guilty to downloading hundreds of indecent images of children and several child abuse manuals.
Mounsey, from Holywood, appeared at Belfast Crown Court today following a joint investigation by the National Crime Agency and PSNI.
Now 18, Mounsey was arrested at home in 2016 by NCA and PSNI officers who seized his mobile phone, computer and two USB sticks.
Almost a third of the 822 images forensic analysts found on the devices were in the most serious category.
Mounsey downloaded images and the manuals from the internet but also solicited images from boys during social media conversation.
Mounsey would ask for pictures of his victims in various states of undress, sometimes offering video game credits in return and in one case using the pretence it would help him advise them on their gym routines.
The NCA and PSNI said they have identified Mounsey’s victims and taken action to ensure they are supported and protected.
He pleaded guilty to:
Possessing a paedophile manual.
Causing a child under 13 to watch a sexual act (offender under 18).
Causing/Inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity – no penetration (offender under 18).
Causing/inciting a boy 13-15 to engage in sexual activity – no penetration (offender under 18).
Distributing an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child.
Making an indecent image of a child.
Possessing an indecent image of a child.
Mounsey was granted continuing bail until January 24, when he will be sentenced after the production of Pre-Sentence Reports.
