Earl Shilton Town councillor convicted of making indecent images of children
An Earl Shilton town councillor has been convicted of making indecent images of children after being found guilty by a jury.
Alan Greenwood, aged 74, a long-standing member of the council, denied two counts of making indecent images of children and a count of intention to encourage the commission of an offence.
He received a nine month custodial sentence suspended for two years for encouraging the commission of an offence and nine months each, concurrent, on the indecent images charges.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years.
Greenwood, of Kerry Close, Barwell, was convicted by a jury following a three day trial at Leicester Crown Court.
He has been informed by the clerk of the council that, subject to any appeal, he will be stripped of his office on Earl Shilton Town Council.
A statement released this afternoon by Mark Jackson, clerk to the council, said: “Earl Shilton Town Council were informed this morning (December 21) that Town Councillor Alan Douglas Greenwood, the elected member for Church Ward, Earl Shilton, has been found guilty of serious criminal charges after a three day trial at Leicester Crown Court.
He was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years, placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years, all phones seized, to pay prosecution costs of £1,000, to pay a victim surcharge of £140.
