Man violently assaulted on baby

A man has been jailed after he violently assaulted a two month old baby

Dean Taylor, 27 of Clayton in Manchester appeared at Manchester Crown Court where he denied attacking the child.

The members of the jury at his trial heard that Taylor had inflicted a number of injuries to the child, after he bit, punched and shook the tiny two month old baby. The attack lasted over a number of hours.

The attack took place in 2014

Taylor had initially blamed the injuries on the mother of the child, telling police that she had attacked her own baby. However the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty of grievous bodily harm on a child

A victim impact statement from the mother of the victim explained that the physical damage Taylor had caused the baby had healed, and there were no long term injuries. But the emotional distress he had caused to the family will last a lifetime.

Taylor was sentenced to a 12 month custodial sentence, of which he must serve half.
