Pervert, 56, is caught with half-dressed girl, 15, after pals called cops when they saw him kissing her

A 56-year-old sexual predator has been jailed after friends see him kissing underage girl

John Walshaw was found with the vulnerable girl, 15, whose pyjamas and underwear were down. He was about to have sexual contact with her.

Her friends had raised the alarm after seeing her kissing him. She had been holding a bottle of wine and walking down an alley, holding hands with her would-be attacker.

Walshaw, of Grimsby, admitted sexual activity with a child and another offence of attempted sexual activity on July 29.

He has 55 previous convictions including being jailed for seven years in 1992 for rape and locked up for nine months in 1989 for indecent assault

Michael Morley, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that the girl was living at the time at a children’s home.

Her friends spotted her holding hands with Walshaw and were concerned because he was considerably older than she was.

The girl had a bottle of wine in her hand and her friends went up to her and followed her.

The girl claimed that Walshaw was her uncle but her friends were pretty sure that this was untrue.

One of the friends told him “you’re a paedo” and made it clear that she was only 15.

“It was made clear to him that the girl whose hand he was holding was a child,” said Mr Morley.

“He was much, much older than her.”

The friends were so concerned that they alerted staff at the home.

The friends spotted her in an alleyway. She was kissing Walshaw and “snogging” him for about five minutes.

They were later spotted behind bushes.

Her pyjamas and knickers were down and Walshaw was in front of her.

Police were alerted and he was arrested nearby.

Gordon Stables, mitigating, said Walshaw claimed he did not know that the girl was in care and that she was under 16 until her friends started shouting about her age.

“He had already met her and was in her presence,” said Mr Stables.

Walshaw had been drinking and made decisions that he would not have done if he had been sober.

Recorder Mark McKone told Walshaw: “She was living in a children’s home and was clearly vulnerable.

“Her friends were sufficiently concerned that they followed you.

“The other children were all telling you that she was only 15.

“When you were told her age, that didn’t put you off.”

Walshaw was jailed for two years and was given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

He must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
