St John Ambulance driver jailed for sex attack on girl
A St John Wales ambulance driver has been jailed for sex attacks on an eight-year-old girl in 2001.
Adrian Orum, 34, attacked the girl and forced her to perform sex acts on him when he was 18.
Orum, of Llanharan, Rhondda Cynon Taff, denied gross indecency with a child and three counts of indecent assault but was found guilty by a jury.
He was jailed for eight years at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday.
Orum was suspended as a driver with first aid charity St John Cymru-Wales when the allegations were made.
A spokeswoman for St John Ambulance said: “It is important to point out that Adrian Orum was not a member of staff when this abuse took place.
“We take the safety of our patients, staff and volunteers extremely seriously.
“Throughout this process we have worked with the relevant authorities and followed our internal policies, to ensure no-one has been put at risk.”
Judge Tom Crowther QC said: “The consequences have plainly been devastating.
“The respectable life for which you are proud was built on the unsuitable foundation of what you did as a young man. You were young but you were an adult.”
