Thirteen-year prison sentence for child sex abuser
A Sheffield man has received a 13-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to child sex offences against a nine-year-old victim.
Michael John Daniel, 65, of Lavender Way, Wincobank, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday 29 November to receive his jail sentence after pleading guilty to the offences at a hearing in October.
Officers arrested Daniel at the end of September after receiving reports that he had sexually abused a nine-year-old boy on a number of occasions over a six-month period. Following the reports, detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit launched an investigation and Daniel was arrested by officers.
Whilst being interviewed, Daniel acknowledged that sexual acts had taken place with the victim and admitted full responsibility for what had happened. Based on these admissions and evidence gathered throughout the investigation, Daniel was charged with five counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13 and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 13.
