Flasher on a bike targeted four young girls
A flasher on a bike targeted four young girls before pedalling “furiously” from pursuing officers.
Joseph Smith, 50, was seen performing a sex act on himself, with his trousers down to his thighs, as he cycled up to a group of three girls, aged 10 and 11, on May 1.
Stephen Welch, prosecuting at Hull Crown Court, said Smith told one of the girls she had “nice t**s”, before making off.
“Officers saw a man matching the description given talking to another girl, an 11-year-old, near the hospital in Goole,” said Mr Welch.
“She seemed stunned. She was spoken to by the police and it appears the defendant had approached her and said, ‘Do you want to see my c***?’ The girl replied, ‘Pardon?’
“He repeated it, then pulled his trousers down and, in the words of the child, had everything out. She had turned away. He made off at speed.”
Mr Welch said officers pursued Smith in their patrol car.
“They told him to stop,” said the barrister. “The defendant replied, ‘No. Why?’ He cycled furiously towards Westfield Avenue, into Rutland Avenue.”
Smith was eventually apprehended. During interview, he made ‘no comment’ responses to all questions put to him.
However, he pleaded guilty to two counts of exposure and two counts of communicating (talking) to a person under 16 for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.
In February 1996, Smith received a £200 for exposure, and in August 2016 he was cautioned for sending an indecent image of himself to a child.
Jailing Smith for 12 months, Judge Mark Bury said: “These were serious offences.
“These offences, in conjunction with your recent caution and a previous conviction, means I can only deal with you by way of immediate imprisonment.”
Smith must register as a sex offender for 10 years
