Pervert looked at indecent images of children

A former fire service worker looked at images of children as young as 18 months old being sexually abused.

Police experts who examined computer equipment seized from the home of David Alun Jones found he had downloading a large number of indecent photographs and videos of children.

Jones, 36, of Tanybryn, Sychdyn near Mold was jailed for 10 months at Caernarfon crown court after he admitted three charges of making indecent images of children and one of possessing such images at an earlier hearing.

Prosecutor Ffion Tomos said Jones, who used to work for Essex Fire Service, had also engaged in online conversations and indicated a preference for young children.

She said police had received information that Jones was uploading indecent images to the internet and raided his home in early August.

“He indicated to officers there would be indecent material on his devices and a laptop was seized for examination,” Ms Tomos said.

In all there were more than 800 images and videos on the laptop.

Jones initially refused to answer police questions at interview but when the results of the expert’s examination were put to him he made full admissions the court heard.

Defence barrister Simon Killeen said Jones was a man of previous good character but had now lost his job.

“The real question is does he have to go to prison immediately.

“The alternative to custody has a number of benefits and I invite the court to consider whether the public would be better served by keeping a tighter control of this man,” he said.

Sentencing Judge Niclas Parry said: “You have admitted to very serious offences of possessing and making indecent images of chldren.

“There are aggravating features, the age and vulnerability of some of the children and the number of images is high.

“Clearly only a custodial sentence can be justified. I take into account your guilty plea and accept this a total tragedy for you.”

In addition to the jail term, Jones will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years and his details will be held on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period.

The judge ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the computer equipment seized.
