‘I didn’t ask for this’: The haunting words of paedophile rapist’s victim as he’s jailed for 14 years

A paedophile jailed for raping a girl that left her feeling like she was no longer the same person.

Darren Wright, from South Bank, has now been locked up for 14 years for horrific abuse against the young girl.

In a haunting statement, his victim told Durham Crown Court how the 32-year-old had shattered her trust in men.

“This is something that will live with me forever,” said the female, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

“I still get flashbacks of what he did to me and I still relive it.

Heart-breakingly, she adds: “I didn’t ask for this.”

Depraved Wright subjected the girl to two years of hell in a campaign of abuse between 2011 and 2013.

Yet he denied the crimes back at Teesside Magistrates’ Court in February, forcing his victim and her family through the pain of a trial.

But a jury convicted him of rape and inappropriate touching.

For the girl’s mum, justice had been served adding: “Everyone should know who this man is and what he has done.

“I hate him and I am angry he stood in court and still tried to lie despite all the evidence.

“What he did has hurt us all physically and emotionally and we won’t let anybody be in our lives – we have to shut them off and kept a small circle who we can trust.”

“And I don’t think my daughter will ever recover from this.”

In her statement, Wright’s victim said she now needed counselling.

“I had (counselling) to try and get me through what has happened and to try and help me get back to the person I used to be,” she said.

“But I found it didn’t help.

“Nothing helps.”

Wright, of Strauss Road, will now have to sign the sex offender’s register following his October 26 sentencing.

And for his victim’s mum, she’s now glad people can now see the truth after her daughter was wrongly dubbed a “liar”.

“The hardest part has been keeping quiet after he was charged as I didn’t want to say anything that would stop my daughter getting the justice she deserved,” she added.

“As her mum, I couldn’t do anything to risk that for her.”
