Sex offender lured a young boy into his home with cash and sweets
A 65-year-old man has been jailed for four years and nine months after the boy he sexually assaulted in the 1980s came forward just last year.
Robert Russell, of View Road in Rochester, was arrested on Thursday, April 7, 2016 after his crimes were reported to the police nearly four decades after they happened.
Police say Russell sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions after luring the boy into his home with cash and sweets.
He pleaded guilty to indecent assault and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, November 8.
Investigating officer Det Cons Paul Newton said: “Robert Russell lured an innocent young boy into his home where he committed a series of terrible offences against him.
“He continued this abuse through a large portion of the 1980s and thought nothing of the impact his actions would have on the young victim and how this would later affect him in his life.
“Russell will now quite rightly serve time in prison and I hope this sentence is of some comfort to the victim and his family.
