Calls for sex offenders supervision shake-up
A shake-up of supervision of sex offenders has been called for after a convicted rapist was jailed for abusing and grooming young girls while on licence.
Daniel Tanner-Dare, of Westhampnett Road, Chichester, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Portsmouth Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury of five offences involving 15-year-old girls.
The 30-year-old had been convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of grooming and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The trial heard that Tanner-Dare befriended a 15-year-old girl and started a sexual relationship with her before sending hundreds of text messages to her friends asking them to meet him and to perform sex acts.
The court was told that Tanner-Dare committed the offences while on licence in Portsmouth after serving almost four years of a seven-year sentence handed to him at Southampton Crown Court for raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
