Man, 64, admits having child abuse images and obscene picture of act involving animal
A 64-year-old man has been told to prepare for prison after admitting having hundreds of child abuse images – and an obscene picture of an act involving an animal.
Richard Atkins pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday.
The offences concern a total of 385 images at varying levels of seriousness.
The majority of them, 254 pictures, were in the most severe category in law.
Atkins admitted a fourth charge of possessing an extreme pornographic image “of a grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise obscene character” showing a sex act involving an animal.
The crimes spanned a five year period between September 2011 and November 2016.
Judge Howard Crowson bailed Atkins, of Dundee Road, Hartlepool, until sentencing on November 6.
He said: “It may not be me that passes the sentence.
“The offences can carry a sentence of imprisonment so you must be prepared for it.
“I have no doubt Ms Egerton hopes to persuade the judge to do something other than send you immediately to prison.”
Atkins, who came in and out of the courtroom using a walking stick, will be on the sex offenders’ register as a result of his pleas.
