Former soldier from Llandeilo jailed for 9 years for child sex abuse
A former soldier from Llandeilo has been jailed for nine years this afternoon after he was convicted of a string of sex offences against a 10 year old girl.
Darren Michael Barton, aged 28, was told by Judge Geraint Walters his victim would suffer life long harm.
Barton, of Bushton, Taliaris, was denied all the charges against him.
But he was found guilty following a trial at Swansea crown court of sexual assault and of inciting her to indulge in sexual activity with him.
Judge Walters said Barton had not shown any type of remorse for what he had done.
“Offences of this type always leave life long marks. There will be a time when it all comes back to her,” he added.
Judge Walters said Barton would be on licence from prison for an additional 12 months after he had completed the nine year term.
Judge Walters issued a sexual harm prevention order restricting Barton’s access to children after his release.
He was also ordered to register with the police as a sex offender for life.
Darren Barton has been found guilty of several sex offences against girl under 13
A Llandeilo man faces a long prison sentence after he was found guilty today of a string of sex offences against a girl aged under 13.
Darren Michael Barton, 28, sobbed as a jury at Swansea crown court returned seven verdicts of guilty.
Barton, of Taliaris, was cleared of two charges of rape but convicted of multiple offences of indecent assault.
He had denied all the charges against him.
There were gasps from his relatives and supporters in the public gallery as the verdicts were announced.
Judge Geraint Walters said he would sentence Barton after a probation officer had prepared a report into his background.
He said a jail sentence would follow and it would not be in Barton’s interests for him to extend bail.
Barton was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing early next month.
