Layton Murley, 18, had sex with schoolgirl, 14, and then threatened to send sexual pictures to her mum if she spoke about ordeal
A predator who had sex with a 14-year-old girl and then threatened that he would send sexualised images of her to her mother in a bid to keep her quiet has appeared at court to be sentenced.
Layton Murley, now 20, from St Erme near Truro , was 18 when the victim got a train to Truro and then a bus to St Erme to meet him at his family home while his parents were out.
Murley, dressed smartly in a suit and tie, arrived at Truro Crown Court this morning to learn his fate, after pleading guilty to one charge of sexual activity with a child shortly before his trial was due to begin.
The court heart how Murley and the victim began communicating online when she was 13 or just 14 and met up before the date relating to the charge, but only hugged and kissed on that occassion.
On April 2 of last year the defendant gave the girl instructions on how to get to him and when she arrived Murley told her that his parents were out and they should go upstairs.
Despite the girl feeling that she was too young for sex, Murley sat on the bed, took his tracksuit bottoms off and produced a condom.
Even though the girl refused several offers for sex, she eventually relented and during the encounter she asked Murley to stop but he carried on regardless.
He ejaculated into a condom and the victim was left with bruising to her thighs and bleeding. Rather than comfort the girl, Murley’s first reaction was to try and clean up and prevent staining to the bed.
The girl then messaged her friends on Snapchat telling them that she had ‘lost her V card’ and the two then went into town to visit Murley’s friends as she attempted to put what had happened to the back of her mind.
Communication between the two continued until Murley told the victim he was unable to talk to her anymore before unblocking her and eventually threatening to send the sexualised pictures to her mother.
The distraught victim eventually confided with her mum who confronted Murley over text. He apologised to her for what had happened and the girl’s mum then went to the police .
As a result of the incident she suffered prolonged bleeding and had trouble eating and sleeping, constantly blaming herself for what had happened.
The court was told how she became aggressive and went from being an outgoing bubbly teenager to a withdrawn introvert.
When police carried out a search of Murley’s room they found the victim’s blood on one of his T shirts that had been hidden away.
He told police he thought she was 16 or 17 and that she initiated the encounter, but an examination of a computer revealed that he had liked pictures of her in her school uniform.
Murley was sentenced to two years in a young offenders’ institute of which he must serve half. He must also sign the sex offenders’ register.
