Man who had group sex with drunk schoolgirl sobs as he is jailed
A man who narrowly avoided a prison sentence for having sex with a schoolgirl when she was drunk is now behind bars after failing to comply with efforts to rehabilitate him.
Luke Hayes, 21, was one of three males who had sex with the teenager one after the other after she got drunk at a house in Hull.
Hayes and his co-defendants, who were aged 18 and 17, all received non-custodial sentences when they appeared at Hull Crown Court last year after admitting sexual activity with a child.
Cathrine Kioko-Gilligan, prosecuting at the same court, told Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, who sentenced the trio, that Hayes had breached a three-year community order, failed to comply with his notification requirements as a sex offender, and breached a suspended sentence.
The judge told Hayes of the offence: “I imagine in ordinary life she would not give you a second glance, and I doubt she did that evening. However, you took advantage of the fact she was somewhat inebriated.”
Jailing Hayes for 12 months, as he continued to sob, Judge Richardson told him: “You are in many respects a very pitiable individual. I hope this brings you to your senses that you can’t conduct your life in the way you have hitherto.”
Hayes hung his head in the dock and began sobbing when the sentence was handed down
