Drug addict helped paedophiles abuse another child

A female drug addict that helped elderly paedophiles abuse a child has been jailed

Lisa Doolan co-erced her victim into visiting the homes of men who would then rape and abuse her.

Doolan, now a mum in her 40s, was jailed today after a judge accepted she had also been sexually exploited – but said she had ultimately allowed her victim to become a “sexual object” for others to prey on.

A teenage Doolan allowed another girl to be abused both to save herself and to fund a glue-sniffing addiction she had already developed during a chaotic childhood.

Liverpool Crown Court heard she would encourage her victim to visit the homes of older men on Wirral, only to then help create a situation through which those paedophiles could abuse her.

Describing one offence Lee Bonner, prosecuting, said: “In one house the defendant removed the victim’s knickers and told her to lie down on the bed, where the elderly gentleman would have sex with her.”

On another occasion, while the man was sat on a chair, she helped place the victim onto him so that he could abuse her.

In other cases Doolan would manipulate the girl into going with her to the home of another man so that he could perform sex acts on himself while in the company of the child.

Doolan, who did not physically abuse the victim herself, asked for cash from both men and on occasions searched their homes for money.

Mr Bonner explained the motive, “in large parts”, for aiding both attackers appeared to be to fund an already substantial drug habit that would continue for several decades.

The incidents, which took place in the 1980s, have had a devastating impact on Doolan’s victim.

Giving an overview of a statement provided by the victim to the court, Recorder Simon Medland said: “She speaks of the ongoing effect of these offences on her, that they have had a psychological impact which has persisted certainly since her teenage years.

“It’s greatly impacted her ability to trust anyone apart from her children and has led to a small circle of friends. It has impacted her ability to have full relationships with men because it brings back memories of what happened in the past when she was little.”

Doolan, who has a 22-month-old baby was convicted by a jury of two counts of gross indecency with a child and a single count of indecent assault on a child.

Doolan failed to return to court for the verdict and was later arrested on a court warrant on 20 September.

While the 45-year-old’s manipulation of the girl is the only time she has been accused of sexual offences, her past is littered with criminal offences.

That past includes a six year jail sentence for burglary.

Recorder Medland accepted Doolan, of Mayfields North in New Ferry, had suffered a shocking youth.

He said: “It is all too often the case that those who are abused themselves become abusers later in life.

“I’m quite sure in my mind the reason you did this was in order to avoid yourself being a victim of predatory paedophiles, in order that you could get the money for drugs without putting yourself in the firing line for their sexual predations.”

Yet while he accepted Doolan had been targeted herself, he added: “You will know therefore, as a victim yourself of sexual abuse, that offending of this nature will often stay with its victim in one form or another for the rest of their life.”

Explaining his sentencing options, he said he was bound by the guidelines in force at the time of the offences and had to take into account that Doolan herself was a vulnerable child at the time she committed them.

He sentenced Doolan to two years in jail and ordered her to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
