Weston pensioner jailed for child sexual abuse
A Weston pensioner has been jailed for sexually abusing a ‘defenceless’ girl over a four-year period.
Richard Budd was sentenced to six years in prison on Monday with his apology at the hearing for his appalling crimes slated for being delivered ‘far too late’.
The 75-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a girl aged under 13 and five further charges of indecent assault.
The charges relate to crimes committed between 2000 and 2003 and his victim – who cannot be named to protect her anonymity – has been praised for speaking out and ensuring her abuser is put behind bars.
Budd, of Longton Grove Road, apologised for his actions during this week’s sentencing hearing.
Budd was handed a six-year jail term with a one-year extended licence by Judge David Ticehurst at Taunton Crown Court.
A sexual harm prevention order for life was imposed and Budd cannot work or live with a child under the age of 16, once released.
