Former submariner from Barrow jailed for eight months after admitting string of offences
A BARROW man has been jailed after pleading guilty to making indecent images of children.
Murdoch Mactaggert MacDonald was sentenced to eight months in prison when he appeared before Judge Mark Brown at Preston Crown Court yesterday.
MacDonald, of Abbey Road, pleaded guilty to four counts of making 283 Category A images, 92 Category B images, 40 Category C images and possession of indecent images.
Indecent images depicting sexual activity involving children are categorised from A to C, with A being the most serious.
The 63-year-old, who served in the Royal Navy for 22 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer, was sent straight to custody and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
MacDonald served on a number of submarines including HMS Victorious.
He formerly lived in Portsmouth and is originally from near Fort William in Scotland.
