Childminder who raped girl, 2, jailed for 11 and a half years
A childminder who raped a two-year-old girl has been jailed for 11 and a half years.
Matthew Carter raped the toddler after accessing indecent images of young children on his computer, Norwich Crown Court heard.
Jailing the 45-year-old, Judge Maureen Bacon said: ‘All this had been led up to by you looking at indecent images. ‘While all child abuse cases are grave and serious, the facts of this case are thoroughly abhorrent.’
The judge said a degree of planning had gone into the attack, as Carter engineered the situation so that he was left alone with the girl.
She said Carter poses a high risk to children. Prosecutor Jude Durr said Carter was arrested after the victim told her family what happened.
In an impact statement read out in court, her family said they were traumatised by Carter’s actions.
Carter worked as an assistant for his wife Angela, a registered childminder, and the couple ran Blue House Childminding from their home.
Carter, of Dereham, Norfolk, had admitted rape and possessing indecent images of children.
